This film was co-created with young people as part of Shakespeare North Playhouse’s Heritage Lottery funded project “Our Town’s Sound”. The project explored and celebrated Knowsley’s linguistic heritage.
An interactive spoken word instrument was created for the project launch event at Shakespeare North Playhouse. The installation invited visitors to explore and play with the voices and words of local young people, echoing the creative processes used in the workshops. By interacting with the instrument, audiences could trigger recordings of the young people’s spoken words alongside dynamic visual projections of the text. Each word was formed from letters and signage found around the town, connecting the voices to the local landscape and making language itself part of the artwork.
